Journalism in the Central Valley can sometimes feel isolated compared to larger media markets. Our chapter creates opportunities to connect. The goal is to connect peers who understand the unique challenges of working here and build a stronger sense of belonging in a profession that thrives on collaboration.

Events & Programs

Our chapter will work to elevate the quality of journalism in the Central Valley by offering learning opportunities including speakers series, panel discussions and skills-building workshops.

Advocacy & Impact

SPJ CenCal is committed to strengthening local journalism and defending those who practice it. Together, we will advocate for high-quality journalism across the Central Valley and serve as a collective voice on issues affecting local media.

Student Journalism Support

We believe the future of journalism is in our classrooms and student media organizations. Our chapter will provide students with networking and training opportunities. We will also advocate on behalf of student media and support student journalists facing challenges on campus.
